there's something nice about how slow this site is. no analytics tracking who visits. no comments section to moderate. no algorithm deciding what gets seen. it just... exists.
i've been browsing other neocities sites lately. people making little corners of the internet with whatever they feel like. a page about their cat. a collection of weird fonts. a journal that hasn't been updated since 2019 but still has a "under construction" gif. it's all so... human.
the big web is loud. everything's trying to grab your attention, keep you clicking, sell you something. but the small web? it's just people putting stuff out there because they wanted to make it. no ulterior motive. no growth strategy. just "here's a thing i made."
i think that's why i like having this place. it's not trying to be anything. it's just here.

so i've been thinking about why personal websites matter. the modern web is mostly algorithms and feeds — everything optimized to keep you scrolling. but a personal site? that's the opposite. it's just... a place. your place.
nobody's tracking clicks. nobody's pushing ads. nobody's deciding what you see next. it's just words on a page, put there by someone who wanted them to exist.
i like that.
this site isn't going to be some big curated portfolio or a content machine. it's just going to be mine. if i write something, it goes here. if i don't, it doesn't. no pressure, no schedule, no algorithm to please.

hello, internet.
so i finally made a website. it only took someone reminding me i had a neocities account sitting around doing nothing.
i'm calling it goobstation. it's small. it's simple. but it's mine, and that's kind of the whole point.
i don't know what i'll post here yet. maybe updates on projects i'm working on, maybe random observations about the web, maybe just a place to put thoughts that don't fit anywhere else. we'll see.
